public beaches, private moments
The sea and beach of my Atlantic Coast childhood is sharp in my memory – people packed towel to towel; dueling radios; family and friends; hotdogs and Good Humor bars; blistering sunburns and waves to be jumped, not ridden.

The seas and shores in my series "DOWN TO THE SEAS AGAIN" are altogether different. These are day dreams and fragments – whispers, not shouts; cool air and quiet moments, not blazing sun and hard childhood play; strangers, not family.

The beach of my childhood no longer exists. My parents and grandparents no longer sit under an umbrella, watching. I am free to create a new beach for myself – one that I choose to observe from a distance. Now I watch.
